Three Southwest Louisiana Legislators Appointed as House Committee Chairmen

BATON ROUGE – In an effort to advance the priorities of the people of Louisiana, three legislators from Southwest Louisiana have been appointed as chairmen of committees in the state House of Representatives, according to the American Press.

The list of chairs, revealed by Speaker of the House Phillip DeVillier, includes 14 Republican leaders and two Democrats. Senate President Cameron Henry also announced his chairmen, consisting of 14 Republicans and 3 Democrats.

DeVillier emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration within the House, stating, To give people the tools they need to thrive, we have to work together, find common ground and understanding, and advance common sense solutions. He expressed confidence in the newly appointed committee chairmen, underscoring their readiness and capability to fulfill their important roles.

Among the appointed chairmen is Senator Mike Reese, a Republican from Leesville, who will lead the Senate Judiciary B Committee. Additionally, Representative Ryan Bourriaque, a Republican from Grand Lake, has been named chairman of the House Transportation Committee. Representing Moss Bluff, Representative Brett Geymann will serve as chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee. Meanwhile, Representative Troy Romero, hailing from Jennings, will chair the House Agriculture Committee.

Furthermore, several legislators from Southwest Louisiana have been appointed as members of various House committees. Representatives Chuck Owen from Rosepine, Dewith Carrier from Oakdale, and Troy Romero will serve on the House Appropriations Committee. Rodney Schamerhorn from Hornbeck and Phillip Tarver from Lake Charles have been appointed to the House Transportation Committee, while Les Farnum from Sulphur will serve on the House Ways and Means Committee.

Other committee appointments include Wilford Carter from Lake Charles, Rodney Schamerhorn, and Les Farnum on the House and Governmental Affairs Committee. Chuck Owen and Phillip Tarver will join the House Education Committee, and Dewith Carrier will serve on the House Natural Resources Committee. Rodney Schamerhorn and Troy Romero are slated to be members of the House Agriculture Committee.

Senator Mark Abraham, who represents Lake Charles, has been appointed to the Senate Commerce, Consumer Protection, and International Affairs Committee, the Judiciary C Committee, and the Senate Transportation, Highways, and Public Works Committee. Senator Jeremy Stine will serve on the Senate Finance Committee, the Senate Environmental Committee, and the Senate Labor and Industrial Committee. Senator Mike Reese will additionally be part of the Senate Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Committee and the Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee.

The appointments were made with a focus on leveraging representatives’ expertise and interests to effectively address the needs of all regions and remove barriers to growth and opportunity throughout the state.

As Louisiana sets its sights on the future, the newly convened committees and their respective chairmen aim to take decisive actions that will propel the state towards progress and prosperity.
