Three Nigerians arrested in Chennai for scamming Rs 17.30 lakh through SIM swap fraud

Three Nigerians have been arrested in Chennai after allegedly defrauding a private company of Rs17.30 lakh using the SIM-swap scam technique. The fraudsters were able to hack into the company’s systems after sending a phishing email and withdrew the money within four hours. The men were charged with cheating, impersonation, forgery and two sections of the IT Act. The fraud came to light after a private bank noticed the debiting of the money and alerted the authorities. The police were able to trace the accused based on the withdrawals they made from ATMs. The men were remanded in judicial custody on Thursday.
