The Indian Army has successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle arms and narcotics across the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials said that three people have been arrested and handed over to local authorities. The army reacted after noticing suspicious movement near the border and an exchange of fire ensued, resulting in one of the arrested person and an Indian Army soldier being injured. The persons were said to be attempting to smuggle in an assortment of weapons and narcotics when authorities intercepted them.

The arrested individuals were named as Mohammad Farooq, Mohammad Riaz and Mohammad Zubair, all residents of Karmara. According to officials, the trio was set to receive the arms and narcotics from across the border and then smuggle them into India when they were spotted and caught. The seizure includes an AK assault rifle, two pistols, six grenades, an IED inside a pressure cooker, and twenty packets of suspected heroin.
The Indian Army remains vigilant along the LoC, given various challenges in this volatile region. Recently, there has been an increase in cross-border firing and infiltration attempts by terrorists.
