Shala Calls the Agreement for Prisoners with Denmark Racist, Violates Human Rights

The Kosovo-Denmark agreement regarding the transfer of approximately 300 prisoners to the Gjilan prison is being heavily criticized by Behxhet Shala, the chairman of the Council for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms. Shala considers this agreement to be criminal and racially biased, asserting that it infringes upon human rights.

In an interview with KosovaPress, Shala expressed his concerns, stating that the agreement brings no benefits to Kosovo. He further emphasized that the prisoners from Denmark might include individuals involved in organized crime with Islamic ties.

Moreover, Shala criticized President Vjosa Osmani for her failure to grant pardons to certain prisoners in Kosovo who, in Shala’s opinion, deserve to be released. He claimed that President Osmani could release a prisoner from Afghanistan more promptly than one from Kosovo.

Shala also discussed the visitation issues faced by former political leaders being tried for war crimes in The Hague. He mentioned that despite several requests for visits, they were repeatedly denied with varying justifications. According to Shala, The Hague disregards both the Ministry of Justice and Kosovo.

The agreement, signed on December 20, 2021, between Kosovo and Denmark, involves the Danish state renting 10 cells in Kosovo for a staggering 300 years. This agreement has triggered criticism from human rights associations in Denmark.

As this contentious matter unfolds, the concerns raised by Shala shed light on potential violations of human rights and the perceived racial biases within the agreement. The criticisms directed at President Osmani for her handling of prisoner pardons add to the complexity of the situation, igniting debates on the fairness and effectiveness of the justice system in Kosovo.

It remains to be seen how these issues will be addressed, but what is evident is the urgent need for a comprehensive examination of the Kosovo-Denmark agreement to ensure the protection of human rights without bias or discrimination.
