After trademark disputes, multiple delays, and everything in between, FNTASTIC has released The Day Before on Steam in early access. However, the game’s launch has been far from ideal, with numerous players complaining about server and performance issues.
At the moment, The Day Before’s Steam page is flooded with negative reviews from users. Many players are criticizing the game for being labeled as an open-world or MMO experience when in reality, it appears to be more of an extraction shooter, as some players have pointed out.
One reviewer shared their frustration about their character randomly falling through the map as soon as the opening cutscene ended. This issue was also experienced by my colleague Mark Medina, who kindly uploaded the first 22 minutes of the game, including the infamous bug right at the beginning.
Unfortunately, the server issues have prevented many players from even accessing the game, leading to further frustration among the community. FNTASTIC has acknowledged the overload on North American servers through their official Twitter account.
However, server problems are just the tip of the iceberg. Players have also noted various other issues with The Day Before. One user on The Day Before subreddit highlighted that despite being a zombie game, the zombies lack any real threat.
Furthermore, it seems that the developer is struggling to cope with the negative feedback they’ve received. Moderators of the official The Day Before Discord temporarily closed the general discussion channel due to overwhelming toxicity. They explained that this decision was made to allow things to calm down and to channel bug reports effectively for the development team. They assured players that a patch is in progress and advised them to prepare for an upcoming game update.
As the early access launch of The Day Before faces severe criticism from players, it remains to be seen how FNTASTIC will respond to these issues. With server problems, gameplay bugs, and a lackluster zombie experience, the developer will need to address these concerns swiftly to regain the trust and support of the player community.
