MUMBAI: Thane Police has introduced a ‘Self Help Desk’ at police stations within the Kalyan Division, aiming to improve facilities for individuals filing complaints. This pilot project allows complainants to access various services and file complaints conveniently. Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbare announced the plan to implement the facility initially in eight police stations, with the intention of expanding it to cover the entire Thane Commissionerate if successful.

In commemoration of Maharashtra Police Day, a program was organized by the police station in the Kalyan Division. During the event, a total of Rs 3 crore 16 lakh worth of stolen valuables were returned to 430 victims who had suffered from theft or burglary incidents in the past year.

Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbare inaugurated the Self Help Desk during the program and instructed the police to ensure its effective utilization. Additionally, senior officials were directed to provide training to a select group of policemen so that they could assist individuals who may be unfamiliar with using the device due to a lack of education or technological experience.

The returned valuables included items from various theft cases, such as 48 cases of gold jewelry theft, 51 vehicle thefts, 314 mobile phone thefts, 10 cash thefts, and 7 other cases. The recipients expressed their gratitude towards the police for their efforts in solving the cases and returning their stolen possessions.

One individual from Dombivli shared his experience of having his saved jewelry stolen, which was meant for his younger daughter’s wedding. However, the police resolved the case promptly, enabling him to receive all the stolen jewelry before his daughter’s wedding.

In addition to returning stolen valuables, the police honored Mohan Rathore, an auto-rickshaw driver, who had recently returned jewelry worth Rs 6 lakh that a woman had accidentally left behind in his vehicle.

The introduction of the Self Help Desk and the successful return of stolen valuables reflect the commitment of the Thane Police to provide efficient and effective services to the community. This initiative not only simplifies the process for filing complaints but also demonstrates the police force’s dedication to addressing and resolving crimes promptly.

With the Self Help Desk in place, the Thane Police is taking significant steps towards ensuring convenience and accessibility for individuals seeking assistance from the police station. The project’s success will likely lead to its expansion across the entire Thane Commissionerate, benefiting a larger population.

The introduction of this self-help initiative is a notable milestone in the Thane Police’s ongoing efforts to enhance public services and strengthen community-police relations. The provision of a dedicated facility for filing complaints and accessing essential services demonstrates the police force’s commitment to ensuring a safer and more secure environment for all residents.
