Thane, Jul 26 – The Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation (BNMC) commissioner has instructed a thorough structural audit of all schools in the town following a partial collapse of a school building. No injuries were reported in the incident which occurred when the canopy of a 25-year-old private school in Bhiwandi town, Maharashtra’s Thane district, gave way.
The BNMC had previously declared the structure as dangerous and had issued a notice regarding its condition. In light of the incident, BNMC Commissioner Ajay Vaidya has ordered officials to conduct audits of both civic and private schools in the area.
Bhiwandi town accommodates 97 primary schools and 11 secondary schools within 48 civic-owned buildings. Furthermore, there are 205 institutions operating within 157 private school buildings. The BNMC has issued notices to all schools, instructing them to inspect their structures to determine if they fall under the dangerous or most dangerous category.
The schools found to have dangerous buildings must submit a structural audit report to the civic body, according to the released statement.
