Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar Carjacked at Gunpoint Near Capitol, US

Texas Congressman Henry Cuellar was the victim of a terrifying armed carjacking near his residence in the Navy Yard area of Washington, D.C. on Monday night. The Democratic representative was held at gunpoint by three to four assailants who subsequently stole his car and phone. Thankfully, Cuellar was unharmed in the incident and is currently cooperating with local law enforcement. Jacob Hochberg, the congressman’s chief of staff, confirmed the carjacking and expressed gratitude to the Metro PD and Capitol Police for their prompt response in recovering Cuellar’s vehicle.

Although the victim’s identity has not been officially confirmed by the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C., they did acknowledge a report of an armed carjacking taking place in the Southeast area of the city. The incident occurred around 9:32 pm at the intersection of New Jersey and K Street. However, the authorities have not released any details regarding the victim.

This carjacking incident comes amidst rising concerns regarding car thefts in Washington, D.C., with 750 carjackings recorded as of Sunday. Alarmingly, 75% of these incidents involved the use of firearms, according to the D.C. Police.
