Texas A&M Volleyball Sweeps Pepperdine to Cap First Weekend of the Season

The Texas A&M volleyball team concluded their first weekend of the season with an impressive sweep of Pepperdine. The Aggies defeated Pepperdine in straight sets, winning 25-12, 25-21, 25-15 in the Omaha Invite held in Omaha, Nebraska. This victory came after the Aggies secured their first win of the season by defeating host team Omaha the previous night.

In their match against Omaha, the Aggies showcased their dominance by winning 25-18, 25-27, 25-12, 25-21. While Omaha put up a good fight, Texas A&M outplayed them with a .364 hitting percentage compared to Omaha’s .115. The Aggies continued their exceptional performance against Pepperdine, who had previously made it to the NCAA tournament. Texas A&M’s hitting percentage soared to an impressive .420, while Pepperdine struggled with just .026.

Head coach Jamie Morrison expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance. He mentioned that the hard work and preparation over the past six months were evident on the court. The Aggies’ efficiency and high hitting percentages reflected the improvements they had been working on.

Standout players for Texas A&M included Bianna Muoneke, who had 12 kills with just one error and a .550 hitting percentage. Logan Lednicky also performed admirably, recording 11 kills with two errors and a hitting percentage of .529. The Aggies dominated in kills with a 43-22 advantage over Pepperdine. Lauren Hogan contributed with 11 digs, helping Texas A&M maintain a 27-21 edge in that statistic. Furthermore, Ifenna Cos-Okpalla and Morgan Perkins stood out defensively, each recording four blocks as the Aggies outmatched Pepperdine with a 16-6 advantage in blocks. The Aggies’ superior performance extended to assists as well, with a 40-21 edge over their opponents.

In their victory against Omaha, the Aggies saw excellent performances from Meuth, Lednicky, and Muoneke, who recorded 17, 12, and 11 kills respectively. Hogan impressed with 10 digs, while Manning contributed with 23 assists and Buzlutepe with 22.

Pepperdine had a rough start to the season, having suffered a straight-set loss to Kansas in their previous match. However, the Aggies’ victory against Pepperdine showcased the team’s determination and skill.

Jamie Morrison, who is in his first year as head coach, expressed his joy in securing his first victory with Texas A&M. He stated that it was an honor to lead the team and hoped for many more wins in the future.

The Aggies will continue their road trip and participate in the Bowling Green Hampton Inn tournament next weekend.
