Joint forces of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army have successfully busted a terrorist module in Uri, Baramulla district. The operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of arms and ammunition from them. The police have registered a case under the UA (P) Act and Arms Act following the operation.
The terrorist module was associated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit, and the arrested individuals are believed to be terrorist associates. The police have identified them as Showkat Ali Awan, Ahmad Din, and Mohammad Sadeeq Khatana, all residents of Churunda, Uri. The apprehension of Showkat Ali Awan initially led to the discovery of two grenades in his possession.
Further questioning of Showkat Ali Awan led to the revelation of the involvement of Ahmad Din and Mohammad Sadeeq Khatana. The police were able to recover additional weapons, including a Chinese pistol, a pistol magazine, and four live rounds, based on their disclosure.
According to the police, the accused individuals were engaged in cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition under the direction of Pakistan-based terror handlers. Their role also included distributing these weapons to LeT terrorists for executing acts of terror.
A case under the Indian Arms Act and UA (P) Act has been registered at the Uri Police Station. Investigations into the matter are currently ongoing.
