Tequila Loco, a renowned tequila brand, has made its U.S. debut with a celebratory event that honors pioneers and the pure essence of tequila. The event took place at the Sullivan Rutherford Estate, an idyllic location adorned with beautiful scenery and architecture. Tequila Loco, founded by Juan Pablo ‘JP’ Torre-Padilla, his uncle, and a group of friends, aims to produce unadulterated and authentic tequila that stands out in the market.
To achieve their goal, JP and his team collaborated with Alberto Navarro, a Maestro Tequilero with decades of experience in the art of agave distillery. Navarro is also the author of Larousse del Tequila, a highly recommended tequila guide. His expertise and passion for tequila have greatly contributed to the success of Tequila Loco.
The evening began with a tasting of Tequila Loco’s lineup, accompanied by opening remarks from JP, Alberto, and Eugenio Jardim, an official ambassador of Loco and a well-known figure in the wine industry. The event attracted a diverse group of guests, including journalists, food and beverage personalities, and educators like Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson and writer Virginie Boone, sparking engaging conversations about tequila.
To enhance the occasion, JP and his team invited local Chef Rogelio Garcia from the newly Michelin Star-rated Auro Restaurant at Four Seasons Napa. Garcia showcased his culinary expertise by pairing Tequila Loco expressions with a variety of dishes featuring seasonal California and Mexican ingredients.
The menu included a pairing of Loco Blanco with Hawaiian kampachi sashimi, creating a vibrant fusion of flavors. The next course featured a Brentwood yellow corn soup with Maine lobster and wild watercress, expertly matched with Loco Puro Corazon, a tequila that embodies purity and elegance. The intense and complex flavors of Loco Ámbar were complemented by Australian Wagyu, Xico Mole, and Roasted Jimmy Nardellos. The evening concluded with a delectable chocolate flan with Rainier cherries and hazelnuts, perfectly harmonizing with the Ámbar’s crème caramel notes.
Tequila Loco celebrates the tradition of old-school tequila production, providing an authentic and enjoyable experience for tequila enthusiasts. The brand plans to focus its launch in the California market initially, with gradual expansion to other markets across the United States.
Overall, the U.S. debut of Tequila Loco was a remarkable event that showcased the brand’s commitment to producing exceptional tequila while paying homage to the pioneers and characters who have shaped the industry. Guests had the opportunity to savor the distinct flavors of Tequila Loco while enjoying the picturesque setting and engaging in thought-provoking conversations about tequila and its nuances.
