Telfair Museums is getting ready to unveil their new Children’s Art Museum (CAM) at the Jepson Center, with the grand opening set for this weekend. The museum, which has been in the works for over a year, is a result of a partnership between Telfair Museums and local design firm FREN Inc. The goal of CAM is to provide a space where children can explore and learn about art in a fun and engaging way.
The Jepson Center, designed by acclaimed architect Moshe Safdie, has been a staple in the community since it opened in 2006. Over the years, the museum has continually updated its exhibits to offer the best in art and technology. The placement of CAM within the Jepson Center was carefully considered to offer visitors a unique learning experience. The grand opening of CAM will take place on July 8, with a special members-only entry early in the morning. The museum will open to the general public at 11 a.m. both on July 8 and 9. The opening weekend will feature a range of hands-on art activities, face painting, music, and treats for visitors to enjoy.
To celebrate the opening, Telfair Museums is offering fun giveaways for the first 100 visitors and has partnered with Leopold’s Ice Cream to create signature flavors inspired by CAM and the Wildflower Café. The museum hopes that the opening of CAM will attract new members and encourage people to explore and engage with art.
During their visit, guests are encouraged to keep an eye out for Cammy, the museum’s official mascot. Cammy is a chameleon and can be found throughout the galleries. If visitors wave at Cammy, they may be in for a special surprise.
