Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief, Revanth Reddy, has accused the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi Party (BRS) of corruption in the construction cost of the newly inaugurated Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial at Necklace Road. According to Reddy, the estimated construction cost started from Rs 63.75 crore, yet ended up at Rs 179.05 crore due to the BRS-led state government and its working president, KT Rama Rao. Reddy has promised to arrest those responsible for the alleged corruption once Congress comes to power in Telangana.
During a media conference on Thursday, Reddy also claimed that BRS leaders were corrupt in the construction cost of Telangana Secretariat and Dr. BR Ambedkar’s statue located near Tank Bund. He added that the memorial to pay tribute to hundreds of Telangana martyrs was flawed, as the stainless steel used was proposed to be 8mm, yet only 4mm was used.
Reddy questioned the reasoning behind putting the KCR’s name on the stone engravings in the state, instead of the names of all martyrs. He raised objections about the quality of the newly constructed memorial, citing many defects, such as gaps between the sheets.
The TPCC chief stated that the chief minister of Telangana, K Chandrasekhar Rao, had tarnished the sacrifices made by the martyrs with the alleged corruption, and called for the state government to take responsibility for providing an explanation.
