Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy has challenged the ruling Congress government in the state to write to the BJP-led Union government if they want a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged lapses in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. Reddy stated that the central government would initiate an investigation within 48 hours if a formal request is made. He further accused the Congress and BRS (Telangana’s political party) of being aligned and not demanding a CBI inquiry. The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, located on the Godavari River, has been praised internationally but has also faced criticism for faulty planning and alleged wastage of public funds. The project aims to provide various benefits, including irrigation, municipal water supply, industrial usage, and drinking water to nearby villages. The BJP leader’s challenge comes after the Congress party accused the BJP during recent election campaigns. Reddy’s remarks add fuel to the ongoing political battle surrounding the project and highlight the call for a transparent investigation.
