Teenager Stabs Man in Back and Continues Attack: Heroic Bystander Saves Victim’s Life
A babyfaced teenager, Callum Pinder, has been found guilty of a horrifying attack in which he stabbed a young man in the back and then returned to continue knifing him. If it hadn’t been for the courageous actions of a member of the public, Warwickshire Police believe the victim would not have survived.
The incident occurred on February 21 in the Pump Room Gardens in Leamington Spa. Pinder, 18, was in a small group when the victim approached him. Despite initial conversation, the teenager began arguing and pushed the man to the ground. Shockingly, Pinder then pulled out a knife from his waistband and stabbed the man in the back before walking away. But he didn’t stop there—Pinder returned to the bandstand to stab the victim a total of nine times before finally fleeing the scene.
Thanks to the quick thinking of a member of the public who promptly called emergency services and provided first aid until help arrived, the victim survived. Pinder, who resides on Newbold Street, was arrested shortly after the incident and later charged with attempted murder and possessing a knife blade in a public place.
During the trial held in August, a jury at Warwick Crown Court found Pinder guilty on both counts. On Friday, December 1, he was sentenced to 18 years in jail for attempted murder. Additionally, he received a two-year sentence for possessing a knife blade in a public place, with both sentences to be served concurrently.
Detective Constable Emma Smith, the investigating officer, expressed gratitude towards the courageous intervention of the member of the public. She emphasized the severity of the incident, stating, The victim was doing what many of us do day-to-day: walking through the park when he was viciously attacked, and it is only because of the courageous actions of a member of the public that he’s still here today. DC Smith commended the officers and emergency services involved in the case and acknowledged the devastating consequences that carrying a knife can have.
This incident serves as a reminder that the use of knives is never acceptable and can result in grave consequences. The sentence imposed on Pinder sends a strong message that the police will thoroughly investigate individuals who choose to carry knives and ensure they face justice.
