Luke Littler employs specialists after online abuse became ‘very bad’
Luke Littler, the rising star of the darts world, has made the decision to hire social media specialists to protect himself and his partner, Eloise Milburn, from online abuse. The 17-year-old Littler’s success at the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace thrust his 21-year-old partner into the limelight, attracting significant attention due to their four-year age gap.
Concerned about the negative comments circulating on social media, Littler took proactive steps to shield himself and Milburn from the abuse. We knew people would find out [about our relationship], but it started off very bad, Littler revealed in an interview with The Guardian. As the weeks go on [the abuse of Milburn on social media] has been almost forgotten. We’ve been talking for a few months now.
To ensure he would not be exposed to hurtful comments, Littler brought in social media specialists to manage his Instagram account, deleting any negative comments before he sees them. By taking this approach, he aims to protect his mental well-being and maintain his focus on his career.
Eloise Milburn, a darts player herself, has admitted that the online abuse initially affected her but she has since learned to cope with the negative comments. Milburn emphasized that the support from those close to the couple is what truly matters. The first day I let it get to me a lot, she said. But you learn that as long as the pair of you are happy, that’s all that matters. The people that matter most are supportive of us.
Despite his young age, Luke Littler has shown tremendous promise in the darts world. Following his success at Ally Pally, he went on to win the Bahrain Masters earlier this month, defeating Michael van Gerwen in the process. Littler is determined to achieve even greater success and is eyeing major titles in the near future. You put on a show. People could have said the worlds was a one-off but it certainly isn’t because I won my first World Series [tournament] and my first attempt at ticking things off the bucket list is done. I’d now like to win any major this year, Littler expressed.
While Littler faced defeat at the hands of van Gerwen in the recent Dutch Masters, he remains resilient and unfazed by the stellar caliber of players he competes against. There was nothing to talk to myself about before playing Michael for the first time, Littler asserted. You’ve got to think you’re going to beat whoever’s in front of you.
