Teen Murder Charges Dropped: Family Launches Justice Campaign
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has dropped murder charges against a teenager accused of the death of 18-year-old Lucas Underwood in Bodmin. The incident occurred in the car park of Bodmin Hospital, where Lucas was fatally stabbed in July.
The 17-year-old boy who was initially charged with murder has been released following the decision by Devon and Cornwall Police to no longer proceed with the case. This has left Lucas’ family devastated, prompting them to launch a fundraising campaign to seek justice for their son.
After careful review of the available evidence, the CPS determined that there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. They expressed understanding for the difficulty faced by Lucas’ family and offered their thoughts during this challenging time.
In an effort to obtain justice for Lucas, the Bartlett/Underwood family has started a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of raising £40,000. Lucas, who was affectionately referred to as their very own Peter Pan, had a significant impact on the lives of many, as evidenced by the attendance of over 400 people at his funeral.
Meanwhile, three other individuals who were arrested in connection with the incident are currently out on police bail. Their charges include aggravated burglary, assisting an offender, and perverting the course of justice. The investigation remains ongoing as Devon and Cornwall Police gather further evidence.
Despite the distress caused by the dropping of murder charges, Lucas’ family remains determined to seek justice for their son. They are relying on the support of the community as they continue to pursue their cause.
This tragic case highlights the devastating consequences of violence and the lasting impact it has on families and communities. As the investigation continues, Lucas’ family and the community eagerly await any developments that may bring them closer to the justice they seek.
