Two teen girls visiting from South America were stabbed on Christmas morning while eating at Tartinery in Grand Central Terminal. The victims, ages 14 and 16, were dining with their parents when the incident occurred. The 16-year-old girl suffered a stab wound to her back, which nicked her lung, while the 14-year-old was stabbed in the thigh. Both teenagers were transported to Bellevue Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Steven Hutcherson from the Bronx, engaged in a verbal dispute with Tartinery staff before brandishing a knife and attacking the girls. Authorities apprehended Hutcherson within seconds, and he now faces several charges, including attempted murder and assault. The investigation is considering hate crime charges due to statements made during the incident. Hutcherson, already known to law enforcement, was previously arrested for menacing individuals with a gun. The case brings attention to the issue of ensuring public safety and protecting visitors in such public places.
