Teachers Unions Criticized for Controversial Agendas and Hypocrisy
The National Education Association (NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) are facing criticism and controversy over their recent activities, shedding light on their agendas and alleged hypocrisy. The AFT’s president, Randi Weingarten, also faced criticism for making divisive statements. She likened pro-school choice parents to segregationists and singled out Christian parents, suggesting they sought to impose their ideology on the country. However, Weingarten ironically called for education to be free from politics. She later defended President Joe Biden, accusing Republicans of abusing their power through baseless impeachment inquiries, while emphasizing Biden’s dedication to the people’s business.
Another union leader, Stacy Davis Gates of the Chicago Teachers Union, faced accusations of hypocrisy when it was discovered that she sends her child to a private school. Gates had criticized school choice and accused supporters of being fascists and racists. She justified her decision by citing limited course offerings and extracurricular activities in public schools, demonstrating a parallel motive to those she criticized.
