Tata Steel Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) with the aim of strengthening the ecosystem for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in India. The MoU, which will be in effect for one year, seeks to create a learning platform for individuals and organizations working with PWDs.
Under the partnership, Tata Steel Foundation and NCPEDP will collaborate on organizing a National Annual Seminar that will focus on rural disability, covering various aspects such as livelihood, health, access to education, rural innovation, and delivery of services. In addition, the two entities will launch at least two pilot projects in rural Jharkhand and Odisha, which will aim to enhance the formation, training, and strengthening of Disabled Persons’ Organizations (DPOs).
The MoU also allows for the possibility of a research-based publication that addresses challenges faced by rural communities. It will have a specific focus on the RPWD Act, linkages to government schemes, and delivery of services, among other areas.
Arman Ali, Executive Director of NCPEDP, expressed his belief that the collaboration will play a crucial role in amplifying the stories of grassroots initiatives. He emphasized the importance of effective policy reforms reaching the grassroots level and commended the work carried out by the Sabal Initiative, which collaborates with various stakeholders to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities.
Sourav Roy, CEO of Tata Steel Foundation, highlighted the organization’s commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals within the discourse on disability. Roy expressed excitement about the potential opportunities that the collaboration with NCPEDP may bring.
Tata Steel Foundation’s SABAL program, which aims to create an inclusive platform for people with disabilities, is facilitated by the Foundation. SABAL focuses on enabling skilling, employability, and financial independence for individuals with disabilities, working with over 10,000 people annually.
By joining forces, Tata Steel Foundation and NCPEDP aim to create a more comprehensive and empowering environment for Persons with Disabilities. Through their collective endeavors, they hope to enhance the capacities of disabled individuals, advocate for their rights, and foster collaborations with regional governments and stakeholders.
This collaboration represents a significant step towards building a more inclusive society in India, where the needs and contributions of Persons with Disabilities are valued and supported.
