Tata Power, one of India’s leading electricity generation and distribution companies, has been awarded a significant order worth ₹1,744 crore ($236 million) to implement a smart metering project in the state of Chhattisgarh. The order was received from the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL), and the project is set to span over a period of 10 years.
The Letter of Award (LOA) was issued to Tata Power after it participated in a tender floated by CSPDCL for three different packages covering various areas under the Chhattisgarh Discom. Tata Power emerged as the winner of package 2, securing the contract. The CEO & MD of Tata Power, Dr. Praveer Sinha, expressed his pleasure at winning the order, stating that it exemplifies the company’s expertise in executing high-value projects aimed at transforming the power distribution sector.
The scope of the project includes the design, supply, installation, commissioning, and operation and maintenance of smart meters at the consumer and distribution transformer levels. By implementing these smart meters, the project aims to improve the Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses in the designated area while increasing revenue collection for CSPDCL. The project falls under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
CSPDCL, a state-owned electricity distribution company, is responsible for providing electricity to consumers across the state of Chhattisgarh. The implementation of smart metering technology is expected to enhance the efficiency of electricity distribution, reduce losses, and enable more accurate billing for consumers.
