Tata Communications, one of India’s leading telecommunications companies, has made significant strides in the 5G space with the launch of its cloud-based 5G Roaming Lab. Simultaneously, the company has announced plans for a ₹1,750 crore private placement in the form of Non-Convertible Debentures (NCDs).

The private placement will involve the issuance of 1,75,000 NCDs with a face value of ₹1,00,000 each. The NCDs will mature three years from the date of allotment, which is set for August 29, 2023. Tata Communications intends to list these NCDs on the Wholesale Debt Market Segment of the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE).

The launch of the 5G Roaming Lab marks a breakthrough for Tata Communications as it provides a comprehensive testing ground for Mobile Network Operators (MNOs). The lab enables MNOs to trial 5G standalone network use cases before offering the service to their subscribers. By closely monitoring traffic movement and network usage, the lab ensures the highest quality of experience for mobile phone users while they are roaming. It also facilitates objective performance assessments across networks, onboarding, and internet trials on the high-speed, reliable, and low-latency 5G standalone network.

Mysore Madhusudhan, Executive Vice President of Collaboration and Connected Solutions at Tata Communications, highlighted the importance of the lab for MNOs in delivering superior and agile services. With fast and uninterrupted connectivity, the 5G generation is set to advance at an accelerated pace compared to its predecessors.

In response to these developments, Tata Communications’ share price reached a 52-week high on Wednesday. The stock gained 2.81% to reach ₹1,831.95 apiece on the BSE. As of 12:00 pm, the share price remained 2.19% higher at ₹1,820.95 apiece on the BSE.

Tata Communications’ foray into the cloud-based 5G Roaming Lab and its plans for a private placement reaffirm its commitment to innovation and investment in cutting-edge technology. With the lab’s ability to provide real-world testing grounds, Tata Communications is well-positioned to support MNOs in delivering exceptional 5G experiences to their subscribers.
