Tanishaa Mukerji, along with several students, participated in the Youth Equine Leadership program organized by Vidhushi Karnani at The Free Press Journal Office in Mumbai. This event, held in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Bombay, aimed to further enhance the leadership skills of nearly 50 students who are part of The Bhavishya-Yaan project. The project focuses on reducing the dropout rate in municipal schools by providing leadership training.

Vidhushi Karnani, the pioneer of the program, explained that the idea was to go beyond horses and incorporate leadership qualities into the training. In the initial phase, the students had received training through horse riding to develop leadership skills and enhance their emotional intelligence.

During the program, the students were given insights into the functioning of a newsroom and the role of leadership in it. They explored various departments of The Free Press Journal, including city reporting, feature and online sections. The students also learned about the positive impact of news on society and how fake news is tackled. They were given a tour of different departments within The Free Press House, including the printing press.

Actress Tanishaa Mukerji shared her personal experiences and highlighted the qualities of a good leader. She emphasized the importance of perseverance and shared her initiatives of planting trees and making efforts towards carbon neutrality in India.

The interactive session allowed the students and Tanishaa to engage in a dialogue where they discussed various topics related to the news industry. The students raised questions about distinguishing between fake news and mistakes, the challenges faced by print media in the era of digital and broadcasting platforms, the pressures of TRP, gathering news, technology in news dissemination, women in the industry, and competition within the industry.

The students were advised to rely on credible news sources rather than social media platforms for authentic news. They were informed that ground reporting is crucial in combating fake news.

The event not only provided valuable insights into the world of news reporting but also inspired the students to consider careers in journalism. Mansi Gurav, one of the students, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to learn about the newspaper’s production process and its various departments.

The collaboration between Vidhushi Karnani, The Rotary Club of Bombay, and The Free Press Journal proved to be fruitful in imparting leadership qualities to the students. Tanishaa Mukerji’s presence and words of wisdom added to the overall experience and motivation for the young participants.

Overall, the Youth Equine Leadership program proved to be a success in enlightening the students about the news industry and instilling valuable leadership qualities in them. This unique initiative provided a platform for students to explore their potential as future leaders in various fields, including journalism.
