Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, recently expressed his pride in the state’s successful startup ecosystem, citing the number of startups registered as proof of his government’s efficiency. During the last two years, 6,257 startups have been registered from Tamil Nadu on the Startup India platform, which is twice the number registered from 2016 to 2021.
During the International MSME Day celebrations held in Chennai Trade Centre, the Chief Minister listed several initiatives taken by his government to promote MSMEs. This includes allocating a Rs 30 crore special fund last year to provide capital subsidies to startups launched by Scheduled Caste entrepreneurs in the state. This year, the allocation has been increased to Rs 50 crore due to the overwhelming response received for this initiative.
The Tamil Nadu government is also establishing macro clusters for pharmacy in Tindivanam and for precision engineering in Thirumudivakkam. It is preparing a detailed project report for opening a macro cluster for space and defense clusters.
Entrepreneurs and FaMe TN signed MoUs for 100 new projects worth Rs 1510 crore in the presence of the Chief Minister. Stalin’s vision for the state is to make it a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. His government’s policies and initiatives have emerged as a beacon of hope for young entrepreneurs, and the Chief Minister’s emphasis on promoting MSMEs is timely, given the pandemic’s impact on the economy.
The Tamil Nadu government’s efforts to create an ecosystem that fosters innovation and promotes entrepreneurship are commendable.
