Tamil Nadu has been recognized as a global leader across various sectors, according to Anil Agarwal, the founder-chairman of the Vedanta Group. During the inauguration of the Surana High Tech International School in Chennai, Agarwal praised the state for its success in automobile manufacturing, textiles, and human resources. He also highlighted the thriving entertainment industry in Tamil Nadu. Agarwal urged students to focus on their careers to achieve their goals and emphasized the importance of vegetarianism in the present climate.
Agarwal commended Tamil Nadu for its achievements across different sectors, stating that the state holds a special place as a land of opportunity, spiritualism, entertainment, and sports. He noted that Tamil Nadu plays a significant role in automobile manufacturing, with major automobile production occurring in the state. The textiles industry in Tamil Nadu is exemplary, producing some of the finest textiles in the world. Agarwal also recognized the contribution of Tamil Nadu’s human resources in global companies, particularly in Silicon Valley. He humorously remarked that people there prefer a Raghavan over a John.
The entertainment sector in Tamil Nadu has been flourishing, and Agarwal acknowledged its growth. He mentioned his past experiences in the state, including setting up a large copper business in Tuticorin and the Madras Aluminium plant in Mettur. Agarwal spoke highly of Tamil Nadu, describing it as a land of Karma Bhoomi.
Addressing the students present at the inauguration, Agarwal expressed his pleasure in being among the young generation who will lead in politics and business. He emphasized the importance of being focused on one’s career and highlighted the role of laptops and smartphones as windows to the world, enabling individuals to accelerate their pursuits.
Agarwal also discussed the changing perception of vegetarianism globally. He noted that while mentioning being vegetarian used to elicit different reactions in the past, being vegan today is regarded with respect. He shared his own journey, from arriving in the United Kingdom 27 years ago with limited understanding of English to eventually establishing his company, which raised significant investments for India.
Agarwal appealed to students to be determined in achieving their aspirations, drawing from his experiences in setting up Hindu schools in the United Kingdom and the importance of promoting vegetarianism. He recalled how Queen Elizabeth II visited one of the schools that focused on vegetarian food and greatly appreciated it.
The Surana Group of Institutions, along with Apollo Hospitals Vice Chairperson Preetha Reddy and other senior officials, inaugurated the Surana High Tech International School in Chennai. The school, set up in collaboration with the US-based High Tech School, aims to provide a multidimensional approach to education.
