Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced a new scheme to support farmers by subsidizing fertilizers and farm materials. The Rs 75.95 crore Kuruvai Crop Cultivation Scheme will help farmers secure these materials at lower prices. The Chief Minister also encouraged farmers to use groundwater to cultivate Kuruvai, which has seen 1.6 lakh acres already cultivated this year. He opened the Mettur dam to help farmers with this process. He urged farmers in the Cauvery Delta to use the Kuruvai Paddy Procurement Scheme and responsibly increase their yields. The cultivation for this season is expected to be above 5 lakh acres. The Chief Minister also opposed the Karnataka Government’s decision to construct the Mekadatu dam in the Cauvery River. Regarding allegations from AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami about DMK renaming and using AIADMK schemes, the Chief Minister said that it is an AIADMK strategy. The Chief Minister also commented on Union Minister Amit Shah’s statement and said that if the Union Minister has candidates in mind for the post of Prime Minister in 2024, Tamilisai Soundarajan and Murugan are there to get a chance.
