Retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai is leading a committee to draft Uniform Civil Code for Uttarakhand. Desai emphasized that the committee is focusing on promoting gender equality and safeguarding the interests of women, children, and differently-abled individuals. The proposed UCC, if accepted, will strengthen the social fabric of the state. The committee aims to submit its report by June 30, 2021. The Uniform Civil Code proposal in India aims to implement personal laws for citizens equally, regardless of their religion, sex, gender, and sexual orientation.

This year, more than 15 lakh pilgrims have taken part in the annual pilgrimage, the Char Dham Yatra, across Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Uttarakhand authorities have made extensive arrangements to ensure a safe and smooth journey. The Char Dham Yatra was inaugurated by the state Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami himself on 22nd April. Additional arrangements like registration office and transit camp and necessary facilities for the pilgrims have been provided by the Uttarakhand Government.
