Syracuse Falls Short in Close Game Against Rochester Red Wings, Despite Danny Mendick’s Stellar Performance

In an intense matchup between the Syracuse Mets and the Rochester Red Wings, Syracuse fell just short in a close game, ultimately losing 11-6. Despite the loss, Syracuse’s Danny Mendick delivered a stellar performance, going 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

The game started with Rochester taking an early lead in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Jordy Barley walked to give the Red Wings a 1-0 advantage. Darren Baker then singled home two runs, extending Rochester’s lead to 3-0. However, the Mets managed to minimize the damage by throwing Baker out at second base.

Rochester continued to build their lead in the third inning, with a wild pitch allowing them to score another run and make it a 4-0 game. They added another run through Brady Lindsly’s sacrifice fly out to take a commanding 5-0 lead.

Syracuse started their comeback in the third inning when Danny Mendick’s single drove in a run, making it a 5-1 ballgame. Rochester quickly responded in the fifth inning by extending their lead to 6-1.

The Mets launched a powerful comeback in the bottom of the fifth, with Brandon McIlwain’s double bringing in two runs, cutting the deficit to 6-4. Syracuse continued chipping away in the sixth inning, as Mendick’s base hit allowed Wyatt Young to score, bringing the game within one run at 6-5.

Rochester managed to secure an insurance run in the eighth inning through Lindsly’s RBI single, giving them a 7-5 lead. However, the Mets fought back once again in the bottom of the eighth as Mendick’s double down the left-field line brought them within one run at 7-6. Unfortunately, Daniel Palka’s groundout ended the inning, preventing Syracuse from closing the gap completely.

In the ninth inning, the Red Wings sealed their victory with three more runs, including Erick Mejia’s three-run home run, extending their lead to 11-6.

The next game of the five-game series between the Syracuse Mets and the Rochester Red Wings will take place on Saturday night. Peyton Battenfield will make his Mets organizational debut as Syracuse’s pitcher, while Roddery Muñoz will start for Rochester. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

Despite the loss, Syracuse’s Danny Mendick’s sensational performance was a standout in an otherwise challenging game for the Mets. The team fought hard but came up short against a determined Rochester Red Wings squad. The series continues, and Syracuse will undoubtedly look to bounce back in the upcoming games.
