A Sydney police officer has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the disappearance of former TV presenter Jesse Baird and his partner Luke Davis, Australian police said Friday.
A 28-year-old senior constable attached to a specialist command, named in the press as Beau Lamarre, presented to Bondi Police Station shortly after 10.30am, where he was arrested and was later charged, New South Wales Police said.
He will be denied bail and is expected to appear in court.
Police have been searching for ex-Channel 10 red carpet reporter Baird, 26, and Davis, a 29-year-old Qantas flight attendant, since bloodied belongings were found in a skip bin in Cronulla, south Sydney, on Wednesday.
A search of Baird’s home in Paddington suburb uncovered a large amount of blood, as well as a projectile and cartridge casing, which matches a police firearm, and that firearm belongs to the 28-year-old man we’ve charged today, Detective Superintendent Daniel Doherty said in a press conference on Friday.
A white van police had been searching for was also found and seized. Police allege it was used for the transportation and disposal of the bodies.
Police will allege the pair were killed in the Paddington home and were later transported to another location in the white van. Their bodies have not yet been found.
Doherty said the suspect had been in a relationship with Baird, which had finished a couple of months ago.
He added that the pair were last seen on Sunday night in Paddington, with the murders believed to have taken place on Monday.
Shouting was heard at Baird’s home by neighbors on Monday. EFE
