Switch Mobility, a Hinduja Group company, has delivered six Switch Solo electric buses to Translink, which is Northern Ireland’s top provider of public transportation, in a bid to meet the needs of evolving customers more sustainably. Four buses will run on the Coleraine route, while two others will take passengers to the iconic Giant’s Causeway. The Switch Solo, which is designed and developed using Switch’s global electric bus experience, features a variable seating layout and is suitable for rural, suburban, and urban routes. The buses will be put into service on the Translink Ulsterbus network later this summer, and they will be the first zero emission buses on this particular network. Translink Business Change Manager Sarah Simpson said that this move is key to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and operating a zero emissions fleet in Northern Ireland by 2040, which is essential for combating the climate crisis and transforming the transportation industry.
Switch Mobility’s CEO, Mahesh Babu, noted that the United Kingdom’s electric bus market has been experiencing steady growth, and that his company is thrilled to have delivered the recent order of Switch Solos to Translink. Switch Mobility, he said, is committed to creating innovative and sustainable solutions that meet its customers’ evolving needs, and that its Switch Solo EVs are a testament to this commitment. Switch Mobility will continue to collaborate with Translink and other customers to promote positive change in the transportation industry.
Overall, this deal between Translink and Switch Mobility signals a step forward in the pursuit of zero-emission transportation, and it is a clear indication of the growing popularity of electric buses in the UK. With a shared vision of creating a greener and more sustainable future for all, both companies strive to drive innovation and offer their customers viable transportation solutions.
