Suzanne Morphew‘s Remains Found in Saguache Field, Sparking New Investigation
The remains of Suzanne Morphew, who went missing on Mother’s Day in 2020, have been discovered in a field in Saguache, Colorado. The finding has prompted a new investigation into her disappearance, breathing new life into a case that has remained unsolved for over three years.
The search for Suzanne Morphew’s remains was actually prompted by the search for another missing woman, Edna Quintana, who disappeared in the same area in May 2023. Unfortunately, Quintana is still missing, but the discovery of Morphew’s remains has brought the Saguache County Sheriffs into the investigation.
Previously, multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Chaffee County Sheriff’s office, the 11th Judicial District Attorney’s office, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, and the FBI, had worked on the case. With the new development, fresh eyes will now be brought in to reinvestigate and reevaluate the evidence.
Mrs. Morphew’s remains were found scattered in a dry, high-desert field south of the town of Moffat. They are currently undergoing an autopsy at the El Paso County Coroner’s office. The location of her remains, which are in a different county from where she was originally believed to be, raises new questions and necessitates the involvement of the Saguache County Sheriffs.
Suzanne Morphew’s husband, Barry Morphew, was the last person to see her alive and was charged with first-degree murder in relation to her disappearance. However, just before the trial in April 2022, the prosecution decided to dismiss the case, believing they were close to finding Suzanne’s body. This turn of events led to Barry’s release.
The discovery of Suzanne Morphew’s remains has brought several new questions to the forefront. Was she kidnapped? Was she murdered? If so, how did she die? Determining the location of her death is crucial as it will determine which jurisdiction is responsible for prosecuting the case. Additionally, investigators will explore the possibility of multiple individuals being involved in her disappearance.
The investigation into Suzanne Morphew’s case will now involve collaboration between various law enforcement agencies. The Saguache County Sheriffs, with their smaller team, will work alongside the Chaffee County Sheriff’s office to piece together the events leading up to her disappearance.
The next few days will involve intense discussions and meetings among the investigators to plan the way forward in light of the new developments. Saguache County Sheriff Dan Warwick is determined to ensure that justice is served and has expressed his commitment to solving the case, regardless of the challenges faced by his smaller department.
As the investigation progresses, more details will likely emerge, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding Suzanne Morphew’s disappearance and death. The discovery of her remains offers hope for answers and closure for her family after years of uncertainty.
