Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has come under fire from BJP senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi for failing to help the victims of the Balasore train tragedy. Sushil Modi criticized Kumar for neither visiting Odisha nor initiating a help desk to provide assistance to those injured in the tragedy. He praised Mamata Banerjee for personally monitoring relief and rescue operations in the area and providing assistance to the victims, and questioned why Kumar had not done the same. He also criticized the Bihar government for failing to provide help to the families of the missing, and for not arranging accommodation or food for those searching for their loved ones. Although the Disaster Management Department has issued toll-free numbers and established a command center, officials have confirmed that almost 50 Bihar passengers have lost their lives, while 43 were injured.
