Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushil Modi has demanded that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi answer for the anti-Sikh riots that took place in 1984, in which thousands of Sikhs were killed. Modi also pointed out that dozens of Hindu-Muslim riots took place in India during the 50 years of the Congress party’s rule since independence. He claimed that the Congress never worked for the development of Muslims and merely aimed to garner their votes by exploiting their fear. Modi accused the Congress of failing to prevent the Moradabad riots, which happened whilst it was in power, and declared that Muslims feel safe under PM Narendra Modi’s regime. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi had accused the BJP-led government of oppressing Indian Muslims, Dalits, tribals and other minority communities in his speech at an event in the United States.
