Flames engulfed a home on Lee Drive in Eden Prairie earlier this month, resulting in a remarkable tale of survival for one family. Jodi Deikel, her daughter Sade Strong, and their two young granddaughters managed to escape the burning house just in time. In an emotional return to their severely damaged home on Wednesday, Deikel expressed her disbelief at the extent of the destruction. The family is grateful to have made it out alive.
The fire started in the garage of their home in the middle of the night on June 2. Both Deikel and Strong awoke to a house consumed by flames, prompting them to spring into action to save themselves and the children. Deikel bravely threw her 5-year-old granddaughter and their dog out the window before making her own leap to safety. Strong, holding her 1-month-old baby tight, swiftly evacuated the house as well.
Tragically, Deikel suffered severe burns on her legs and spent two-and-a-half weeks in the ICU. Throughout her hospitalization, her daughter and their neighbors rallied together, providing support and visiting her. Deikel deeply appreciates the solidarity and assistance they received during such a challenging time.
Although too young to remember the incident, baby Skylynn has become an inspiring symbol of survival at just one month old. Strong plans to tell her daughter about her bravery and the incredible story surrounding her early life.
The intensity of the fire spread to a neighboring home, resulting in its destruction as well. Currently, investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
To aid the family in their recovery, an online fundraiser has already raised over $10,000. However, much more support is needed to rebuild their lives after this devastating event. The generosity of the community will play a crucial role in helping the family navigate their path to recovery.
Though this incident has left scars, both physical and emotional, the resilience of the family shines through. Their story serves as a powerful reminder of how communities can come together in times of adversity and offer solace in the face of tragedy.
