A survivor of the deadly three-train crash in India last week has recounted his experience on the train. Ompal Bhatia was travelling with three friends on the Coromandel Express to Chennai for work. The 25-year-old said that just before the trains collided, some people were getting ready to sleep. The rail car Bhatia was in was so full that there was only standing space. The train is often used by daily wage workers and people who work as cheap labour in industries around Chennai and Bangalore. The coach Bhatia was in was not air-conditioned. Suddenly, there was a loud and violent noise, and the train started to move backwards, said Bhatia. Another passenger, Moti Sheikh, was also standing when the train crashed. He and his friends thought they would not survive. However, they did escape and were taken to hospital. Archana Paul was in the other train when the crash happened. She is asking for help to find her missing son.
