An increase in hospitalizations of patients with COVID-19 has been recorded recently in Cyprus, according to the State Health Services Organization (SHSO). Despite the rise in cases, the organization reassures the public that the situation remains manageable. Currently, around 70 patients are receiving treatment, with three in the Intensive Care Unit but out of danger.
Most of the newly admitted patients are elderly individuals, ranging from 75 to 80 years old, with many coming from nursing homes. It appears that there are transmission chains within these facilities, leading to the increased hospitalizations.
Furthermore, the SHSO spokesperson highlighted that a significant number of the affected individuals had not received their last dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. This observation underscores the importance of vaccination in reducing the severity of the disease and preventing hospitalizations.
The spokesperson also emphasized that the consequences of holiday gatherings and overcrowding will become evident in the upcoming days, in terms of new infection numbers. As a result, the public is urged to continue practicing personal hygiene measures and follow personal protection guidelines for all types of infections.
In conclusion, while hospitalizations due to COVID-19 have increased in Cyprus, the situation remains under control. The elderly population, particularly those residing in nursing homes, seems to be more vulnerable. The SHSO emphasizes the importance of vaccination and urges the public to maintain personal hygiene practices to prevent the spread of the virus. By staying vigilant and following recommended guidelines, individuals can contribute to managing the situation effectively.
