Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Working President Supriya Sule recently criticized Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde over his recent traitor remark. During the Shiv Sena Foundation Day celebration, Shinde accused the Uddhav Thackeray faction of being a traitor to Balasaheb’s ideology and alleged that the Shiv Sena made an alliance with Congress and NCP to form the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

Sule challenged Shinde and asked why he did not realize this when he was a minister in the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi for two and a half years. She claimed that those making the allegations were previously part of the MVA government and conveniently forgot about morality back then. Sule suggested that they too were a part of the system, but did not feel that something was wrong at that time.

Since last year’s revolt, the Shiv Sena has been split into two factions, led by Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray. They observed two separate foundation day events on June 19. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut even petitioned the United Nations to declare June 20 as World Traitors Day to mark the day when 40 legislators from Shiv Sena, including the current Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde, rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray to split the Shiv Sena into two factions.

In response, State Minister Uday Samant said it’s a self-respect day for them, as UBT and NCP observed Gaddar that day. He added that it’s a self-respect day for them, as the last 11 months have seen Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis take the historic decision that they are happy and proud of.

The split also led to the collapse of the three-party Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, which consisted of the united Shiv Sena, the NCP, and the Congress. However, Shinde accused Uddhav Thackeray’s faction of betraying the people of the state and warned that those who betrayed voters wouldn’t get sympathy. Despite the tensions, the Shiv Sena is still working for the welfare of the people, he added.
