Supreme Court Declines Urgent Plea Against Allahabad HC Order Summons for Makers of ‘Adipurush’
The Supreme Court has declined to hear an urgent plea against an order by the Allahabad High Court summoning the makers of the film Adipurush to appear before it on July 27. A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has asked the counsel representing the filmmakers to mention the plea on Thursday.
On June 30, the Allahabad High Court had summoned the director Om Raut, producer Bhushan Kumar, and dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir to appear before it. The court also directed the central government to set up a five-member committee to provide its opinion on whether the movie has hurt public sentiments. Additionally, the government was instructed to review the decision to grant a certificate to the film.
This order came as a result of separate petitions filed by Kuldeep Tiwari and Naveen Dhawan, seeking a ban on the movie Adipurush. The film, which takes inspiration from the Hindu epic Ramayana, faced heavy criticism after its release.
Adipurush stars Prabhas as Lord Ram, Kriti as Goddess Sita, Sunny Singh as Laxman, and Saif Ali Khan as Ravana. The movie portrays the mythical hydra-headed demon king in the epic.
As of now, the Supreme Court has declined to intervene and has asked the filmmakers to present their plea on Thursday. It remains to be seen how the case will unfold and what implications it will have on the movie’s release.
