The Supreme Court has granted interim bail extension to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain on medical grounds. The court extended his interim bail until further orders, taking into consideration his recent spine operation and the need for recovery.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Jain, requested an extension of his interim bail, highlighting his medical condition. However, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju emphasized the necessity of an independent evaluation, stating that it would reveal that Jain does not require hospitalization.

The Supreme Court has scheduled the next hearing for this matter on August 21.

Satyendra Jain is accused in a money laundering case and was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on May 26 until July 11 on medical grounds. The Enforcement Directorate had argued that the leader’s health status should first be assessed by a panel of doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. However, the court declined this request.

Jain was hospitalized after he fell in the bathroom at Delhi’s Tihar Jail, as reported by jail officials.

The Enforcement Directorate had arrested Jain on May 30 last year under sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The case is based on a complaint filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), alleging that Jain had acquired movable properties in the names of various individuals between February 14, 2015, and May 31, 2017, without proper explanation.

On May 15, Jain filed a bail plea in the Supreme Court regarding the money laundering case against him. He challenged the Delhi High Court’s order that dismissed his bail request. The high court had stated that Jain is an influential person and could tamper with evidence. According to the court, Jain’s application at this stage couldn’t meet the twin conditions required by the PMLA.

Earlier, on April 6, the Delhi High Court had rejected Jain’s bail plea. The court expressed concerns about Jain’s influence and the potential for evidence tampering.

In conclusion, the Supreme Court has extended the interim bail of AAP leader Satyendra Jain on medical grounds. The court decided to grant this extension after considering Jain’s recent spine operation and the need for recovery. The next hearing for this matter is scheduled for August 21.
