Supreme Court Introduces New Procedure for Urgent Listing of Cases

The Supreme Court of India has recently released a fresh notification outlining the procedure to be followed by Chief Justice of India (CJI), D Y Chandrachud, for urgent listing and hearing of cases. This new process will be effective from July 3, when the court reopens following the summer vacation.

The circular, issued on June 28 by the Registrars of Judicial Administration, states that Miscellaneous fresh matters which are verified on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday shall be automatically listed on the following Monday. This means that cases that are verified on the mentioned days will be scheduled for hearing on the subsequent Monday.

The aim of this new procedure is to streamline the listing process and ensure greater efficiency in the Supreme Court’s functioning. By automating the listing of verified cases, the court intends to reduce delays and expedite urgent matters.
