The Minister of Education for Manipur, Thounaojam Basantakumar Singh, announced the results of the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur’s (BoSEM) High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) on Thursday. The pass rate for the exam reached 82.82%, the highest in the last ten years, excluding the COVID-19 pandemic period of 2021. Over 37,000 students appeared for the exam, and 31,365 students passed, including 18,142 males and 18,545 females.
Yengkhom Pareihanba of Ratankumar Memorial School Kwakeithel Heinoukhongnembi secured first place in the exam, with 594 out of 600 marks. Two students from RMSKH in Imphal, Omega Chanu Wangkhem and Venus Laiphraikpam, jointly secured second place with 591 marks each. Ophelia Chanu Ngangom of RMSKH, Sanchita Thokchom, and Silvia Mutum of RMSKH jointly secured the third spot with 588 marks each.
Among the districts, Thoubal and Kakching scored the highest pass percentage of 89.62%, while Chandel and Tengnoupal had the lowest pass percentage of 75.09%.
The Manipur government has extended the summer holidays for all schools in the state till June 19, 2023, due to the prevailing law and order situation. The Director of Education (Schools), Government of Manipur, extended the summer vacation after the state education minister initially announced a summer vacation for all schools from May 4 to May 30.
Violence-affected students who are displaced and willing to transfer to the nearest feasible school of their choice are allowed to transfer from Class IX to X and X to X at no cost, according to a notification issued by the BoSEM secretary.
The State Education Department of Manipur has also started providing learning materials to displaced school children who are currently taking shelter at temporary relief centers in the state since May 21, 2023. Manipur has around 1110 schools in total, which include 643 private schools, 384 government schools, and 83 aided schools.
