Sujana Sundash, a 23-year-old actor from Gangtok (Sikkim), faced a tough challenge portraying a Bihari girl in her debut film Kusum Ki Biyah. Speaking Nepali and Sikkimese, Sundash had to learn Hindi and Bhojpuri fluently in order to bring the character to life. Despite initial doubts, she was able to pull it off thanks to months of workshops and the help of the entire team and locals.
Acting came as a lucky coincidence for Sundash, who was discovered by filmmaker Suvendu Raj Ghosh during a workshop and audition in Gangtok. Out of all the aspiring actors, Sundash was the one selected to play the lead role in the upcoming film. God has been kind to get me work at my native place and now I want to prove myself and inspire people from North-East to just follow their dream, says Sundash.
Sundash already has experience in ITI and worked for two years in a jewelry store while also doing modeling and participating in beauty pageants. Despite being cautious about her physique and fitness, she had to gain weight and sport a darker skin tone for her role in Kusum Ki Biyah. Now that she has completed her work on the film, she plans to move to Mumbai to pursue a full-time career in acting.
Having faced bias towards people from the North-East in the past, Sundash feels lucky to have worked with such wonderful people on her debut film. She hopes that her portrayal will inspire others from the North-East region to follow their dreams and prove themselves in the competitive world of acting. Sundash is eagerly waiting for the release of Kusum Ki Biyah and hopes it will lead to more opportunities in the film industry.
In conclusion, Sujana Sundash’s debut film Kusum Ki Biyah marked a turning point in her career, where she had to overcome language barriers and learn new skills. Despite being from a small town, Sundash proved that with hard work, dedication, and talent, one can achieve great things in the field of acting. She hopes to be a role model for others from the North-East region and inspire them to pursue their dreams.
