Succession Creator Reveals Logan Roy’s Intentions for Media Empire
In a recent revelation, Succession creator Jesse Armstrong has shed light on one of the most significant mysteries from the show’s final season. The question of whether or not Logan Roy intended to pass his media empire to his oldest son, Kendall, has been put to rest.
During a discussion at the Financial Times Weekend Festival, Armstrong disclosed that Logan had underlined Kendall’s name on a piece of paper found in his safe after his demise, instead of crossing it out. Armstrong, being the person who underlined the name, firmly stated, If you were crossing something out, you wouldn’t start underneath, would you?
However, Armstrong admitted that he purposely drew the line in a way that could still create doubt in Kendall’s mind, as shared by a writer on Twitter/X.
Fans of the show will recall that the board of Waystar Royco ultimately had the responsibility to choose a new CEO through a vote. The discovery of the paper in Logan’s safe made it easier for Kendall and his brother Roman to assume the role of dual interim CEOs until the final decision was made.
Armstrong’s revelation contradicts the stance of Succession writer and co-executive producer Lucy Prebble, who previously believed that Logan would have likely crossed out Kendall’s name. Prebble described Logan as petulant and mentioned that underlining Kendall’s name was not in line with his character.
