Students in Surat, Gujarat came together to pay tribute to the fallen troops of India through a unique initiative. On Wednesday, students from Shri Swaminarayan Gurukul Vidyalaya formed a human chain in the shape of India’s map to highlight the slogan ‘Meri Maati, Mera Desh’ (My Soil, My Country). This gesture aimed to honor the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in defense of the nation.
The initiative in Surat was part of the nationwide ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign announced by the Central Government. The campaign, scheduled from August 9th to 30th, is a collective effort to commemorate the courageous ‘Veers’ who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Programs at various levels, including village, block, state, and national, are planned throughout the campaign to remember and honor the fallen heroes.
The closing ceremony of the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign will take place at Kartavya Path in Delhi on August 30th. As part of this campaign, memorial plaques called Shilaphalakams will be installed in village panchayats to pay homage to the bravehearts. The campaign serves as the concluding event of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ which began on March 12th, 2021, and witnessed massive public participation with more than 2 lakh programs organized across India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his Mann Ki Baat broadcast, announced this campaign to honor freedom fighters and brave soldiers who dedicated their lives to the nation. The initiative aims to instill a sense of gratitude and pride among the citizens for the sacrifices made by these extraordinary individuals.
