Stephen Michael Songy, a resident of Soddy Daisy (Lakesite), sadly passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023, after a long battle with illness. He was 68 years old.
Born on May 24, 1955, in Long Beach, California, Stephen pursued his education at Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, California, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree. Stephen ventured into a successful career in the employee benefits and disability claim insurance industry, which led him to Dallas, Texas, and eventually to Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Joanne Catherine (McNally) and Joseph James Songy. He leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory. Judith Songy, his beloved wife, John Songy (Sally), his brother, Patricia Keith, his sister-in-law, Kathy Korzen, his special cousin, and his precious nieces, Heather, Brianna, Caitlin, Kailee, and Chelsey will forever treasure the time they shared with him.
A friend, confidant, and an enormous source of support, Stephen was like a beloved uncle to many. He cherished spending time with family and friends, as well as his furry companions throughout the years – Gracie Anne, Kelly, Bo, and Flynn. Stephen was fortunate to have the love and comfort of his loved ones by his side during his last days.
To honor Stephen’s memory, a visitation with family and friends, followed by a Celebration of Steve’s Life, will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023, at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel, located at 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343. The visitation will begin at 5:00 PM, with the celebration ceremony commencing at 6:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Stephen’s name. Contributors can choose between Ronald McDonald House, specifically directed to the Seattle Children’s Hospital location, or the McKamey Animal Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
