State Witness Cross-Examined in Senzo Meyiwa Murder Trial
The defence in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has begun cross-examining Tumelo Madlala, a State witness and a close friend of the late goalkeeper. Madlala is testifying in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria about the events that unfolded on the night Meyiwa was fatally shot at the home of his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus on October 26, 2014.
Present during the incident were Meyiwa’s close friends Mthokozisi Thwala, Tumelo Madlala, and Longwe Twala, as well as Kelly Khumalo, her mother Ntombi Gladness Khumalo, her sister Zandie Khumalo, and her two children Christian and Thingo.
The trial involves five men—Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli—who are facing charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a license, and possession of ammunition. All five men have pleaded not guilty as the trial has recently restarted under Judge Ratha Mokgoathleng.
In terms of the court proceedings, the trial normally commences at 10:00, breaks for lunch at 13:00, and resumes at 14:00. However, delays and adjournments can occur, either for tea or lunch, due to unforeseen circumstances.
