A local startup in Philadelphia is introducing a new transportation option that combines the charm of traditional horse-drawn carriages with modern technology. The company, FREe-Carriages, recently held a test run of their electric, horseless carriages in Queen Village. These innovative carriages are powered by lead-acid batteries and can reach speeds of up to 18 miles per hour. Riders who tested out the carriages over the weekend expressed enthusiasm for the cruelty-free and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional carriage rides. Despite the positive feedback, there are regulatory hurdles to address before these carriages can operate on the city’s streets. Collaborating with city officials, including City Councilmember Mark Squilla and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, FREe-Carriages aims to navigate these challenges and offer a unique way to experience Philadelphia’s rich history and culture.
