Two days after being apprehended while attempting to flee Goa with her four-year-old son’s body in a suitcase, Suchana Seth, the CEO of a Bengaluru-based startup, is now suspected of premeditated murder by Goa police. It is alleged that Seth smothered her child to death in a Candolim hotel. According to authorities, based on the post-mortem conducted on Tuesday, the child was killed at least 36 hours prior.
The investigation has revealed that on January 6, the day Seth and her son arrived in Goa, she sent a WhatsApp message to her estranged husband, inviting him to meet in Bengaluru and spend time with their child as mandated by a court order. However, when Seth and the child failed to appear, the husband departed for Jakarta. Police suspect that Seth meticulously planned the murder. Additionally, two empty bottles of cough syrup were discovered in the service apartment where she stayed in North Goa for two nights.
We are verifying whether she intoxicated her child with cough syrup, an officer stated. According to hotel staff, Seth did not leave her room until she checked out early on Monday. The police believe that Seth’s actions were part of a calculated scheme. We call it a planned murder because of the way she landed in Goa with her son last Saturday, locked herself in the room, killed and packed her son’s body in a bag, and hired a taxi to travel to Bengaluru to hide her son’s body, the officer stated.
Seth left the property around 1 am on Monday and may have reached Bengaluru in just over 10 hours, but a traffic snarl at Chorla Ghat held up the taxi from 2 am to 6 am. When asked about her plan for disposing of her son’s body, Seth reportedly told interrogators that nothing was planned, expressing a desire to take her son to her residence.
Seth underwent medical evaluations and sample collection at both the Goa Medical College and Hospital and the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour in Bambolim. It was revealed that she had not been in contact with her father for several years since her mother’s passing. Police assert that there is ample evidence to support the charge of premeditated murder against Seth, a data scientist who claims to be a Harvard fellow and boasts an extensive list of academic and professional qualifications on her LinkedIn profile.
The statements of over 12 individuals have been recorded by investigators, and a notice has been issued to Suchana’s husband, Venkat Raman, requiring him to appear before the Calangute police. Raman is expected to comply on either Saturday or Sunday. The couple met in Bengaluru and married after a period of courtship. Both were regarded as financially stable. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has directed the police to thoroughly investigate the case.
