St. Columbas High School Students Launch Online Magazine to Combat Social Injustices

Students from St. Columbas High School, in collaboration with the media club, have recently unveiled an innovative online magazine aimed at addressing social injustices. With the support of prominent organizations such as the Modi Foundation, founded by Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, Cde Raj Modi, and chaired by Economic Empowerment Group Bulawayo’s Bukhosi Ncube, this empowering initiative intends to make a meaningful impact.

The magazine launch, which took place last month, saw the participation of students from Dominican Convent, Riverdale Academy, and Gifford High Schools. SuperMed and Toppers also played a pivotal role by educating the audience of 800 pupils about the perils of drug abuse, while also giving out prizes.

The St. Columbas media club boasts a talented team of members who have made this initiative possible. Ropafadzo Nyika, the president and photographer of the media club, has been at the forefront of this pioneering movement. Joining Nyika are Tawona Tsikira as the social media manager, Nkosana Prince Moyo as the projects manager, Donnell Mutoredzanwa as the editor, Michell Simango as the journalist, Angel G. Ndlovu as the magazine organizer, and Mr. Tazibona as the media patron. Others involved include Jainos Mugova and Chelssie Phiri, who serve as St. Columbas’ mail ambassadors.

Gift Mutsonziwa, the Creative Director of Duelcore Technologies, affirmed the importance of the Youth Innovation Hub’s objective to promote computer literacy and ICT in the region, particularly in Matabeleland North and South provinces. Additionally, St. Columbas will soon release a documentary depicting the journey behind the creation of this groundbreaking magazine.

Milton High School and Gifford High School are among the other educational institutions that have achieved similar milestones in partnership with the Modi Foundation.

The online magazine primarily focuses on raising awareness about drug substance abuse and combatting cyberbullying. It also intends to promote digitalization and enhance the school’s brand visibility in the process.

St. Columbas High School’s students have set an inspiring example by launching this online magazine, showcasing their commitment to addressing crucial problems prevalent in society. Through their dedication and the support of esteemed organizations, they aim to make a difference and improve the lives of individuals affected by social injustices.

As the magazine gains momentum, it is poised to generate greater awareness, contribute to the ongoing battle against societal issues, and inspire others to take action. The students involved have undoubtedly demonstrated that the power of knowledge and digital platforms can be harnessed to create a brighter and more inclusive future.
