Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has sparked speculation about a potential transfer with some intriguing activity on his social media accounts. Dier, who has been with the club since 2014, took the unusual step of removing any mention of Tottenham from his Instagram bio and was also not following the club on Instagram or Twitter. This raised eyebrows among fans, who are known for scrutinizing players’ social media behavior during the transfer window.

Although it remains unclear whether Dier had ever followed the club on social media platforms in the past, he quickly rectified the situation by re-following Tottenham on Instagram after news of his actions went viral. This has only added fuel to the rumors of a possible exit from the club for the England international.

Many Spurs supporters were surprised by Dier’s behavior, especially since he was expected to be a strong candidate for the captaincy following Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich. Dier had even captained the team on a few occasions during pre-season matches. However, with goalkeeper Hugo Lloris also linked with a move away from the club, Dier could become Tottenham’s longest-serving player if he stays.

New Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has been open about his desire to revamp the team’s defense. Already, he has made it clear that Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez are available for transfer. Additionally, Postecoglou has brought in Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg for a significant fee, indicating his intentions to reshape the back-line for the upcoming season.

Speaking about the squad size, Postecoglou stated, It’s fair to say our squad is too big at the moment. There are guys who will want to explore opportunities elsewhere. I’m not involved in that. I think we’ll see some movement out in the coming weeks. These comments have further heightened speculation about Dier’s future at the club.

Dier was one of the remaining key players from the Mauricio Pochettino era, with fellow teammates such as Dele Alli, Harry Winks, and Harry Kane having already left. As the last man standing from that successful period, the defender’s potential departure would be another blow to Tottenham’s continuity and stability.

Ultimately, only time will tell whether Dier will indeed leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer. As the transfer window progresses, fans will be eagerly watching to see how the situation unfolds and whether the club will be able to retain one of their longest-serving players.
